Chronic Kidney Disease is the 12th largest cause of death and the 17th cause of disability. This has become a worldwide public health problem, both in terms of number of patients and cost of treatment involved.
Dialysis is a type of renal replacement therapy which is used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney functions. A dialysis center is a clinical establishment that provides treatment of patients with renal failure. The treatment procedures require professional supervision by experienced staff.
In order to ensure quality and safe care, it is important to standardize the structures and processes of dialysis centers. One of the best tools for standardization and making sure that the dialysis center is compliant to the international standards is through accreditation. Understanding the international standards recognized globally and validated by the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQUA) and knowing how to implement them will help ensure patients’ safety as the dialysis center benchmarks its processes with the globally accepted standards of care.
These standards are applicable to following services provided by dialysis centres:
1. Chronic Haemodialysis
2. Acute Haemodialysis
3. Peritoneal Dialysis
4. Haemofiltration and other similar modalities for adult and paediatric patients
